Webcomics

n my search for more information about creating webcomics I ran across a book in the local library by author/comic Scott McCloud.

The book is called “Making Comics,” and is essentially a comic book about making a comic book. It’s quite ingenious actually and filled with useful information.

I checked out his website today and found some other pretty interesting things on it.  I knew that I had heard his name before, but my mind couldn’t figure out from where.  It dawned on me when I saw his site and his mention of the Google Chrome comic to describe the new web browser.  He is the artist of that infamous comic!
The Google Chrome comic was meant to be uploaded when the web browser was officially released, but there was a mix up at the Google “e-mail room.”  Copies of the comic were sent a couple days before the browser was actually due to be released, so for a couple of days the comic was a big draw, as you can imagine, with people flocking to get a sneak peek of the soon to be released new Google product.  Imagine my surprise, when I pick up his book a couple weeks later by coincidence!
While I’m talking about Google, by the way, Chrome is an excellent browser.  I love the minimalistic feel of the GUI and the speed of the pages.  I also discovered Google’s 411 telephone system last week (1-800-GOOG-411) and was amazed!  I wonder what made a web company branch into the phone lines…shades of the future maybe?!?
