Blender Studio Projects: Digital Movie-Making

I just purchased the new Blender book from Sybex last night titled Blender Studio Projects: Digital Movie-Making. This is a book that I’ve read about a couple of times before it’s release because I’m a big fan of Claudio (malefico) Andaur and follow his blog along with his studio’s, Licuadora, blog. Also, the first author of the book is Tony Mullen and I have a couple of his previous books (Introducing Character Animation with Blender, and Mastering Blender), which I really enjoy. Anyway, it sounded like a great book, so I managed to find a copy at the local Borders and grabbed it last night.

I’ve only seriously read the first chapter, but have paged through the rest of it quickly and it seems great so far. The book is essentially taking the reader through all levels of producing a movie with Blender. This includes preparing concept art, piecing together an animatic, modelling, rigging, animation, and compositing. The book basically describes the process that Licuadora Studios is going through to produce their animated movie Mercator. The final chapter is a complete step-by-step breakdown of a shot from the movie from start to finish.

I’ll try to keep updating the blog as I find some new and interesting things in the book, but it may get a little left behind with the BWC going on. Speaking of the contest, I have a couple of new test images done and will prepare a post within the next few days!
