Blake Tutorial Series – Part 2…

Because the first tutorial was so basic and I didn’t really start the character creation process, I decided to go ahead and release the second part of the series today, rather than waiting a whole week. This does mean that part 2 won’t be in HD because vimeo limits a normal user to 1 HD video per week, but it should still be easily followed!

In this part I actually begin the process of modeling blake and take the viewer through some of the basics of modeling in blender.  At the conclusion of the tutorial we’ll have an eye socket and an edge loop around the bottom of the mouth.

Part 2 runs about 21 minutes and is still very beginner friendly (people familiar with blender will be bored!).  I try to go through the modeling process very slowly and attempt to explain every step and key press.  For extreme beginners I recommend going through one or two other basic modeling tutorials before this one as I do go through some things sort of quickly if you are not familiar with 3D programs.  Again, the Blender Wiki is a great place to start if you are just getting into the program or if you are stuck with any of the steps.

The Process Diary

I’ve had this blog on my Google Reader list for quite a while now and I just love when there is a new article posted.  Paul Caggegi takes you through his entire process of creating a Web Comic (in this case Pandeia).  The whole comic is created with open source tools, mainly Blender and Gimp, and Paul does an excellent job of documenting everything.  Searching through all of the archived posts will give you days worth of great tutorials.  At the end of my tutorial series I’d like to try to make a comic page using Paul’s method detailed the past few weeks.  Subscribe to Pandeia while you are there and get updated when each new page comes out, what will happen next week!
